Cryopreservation

In this process, the water is replaced by a cryoprotectant and later leaves it for a certain amount of time so that the required amount of cryoprotectant can be accumulated replacing the water content in the cell. After achieving the right amount of cryoprotectant the doctors then move towards the freezing process. Two major methods are adopted in the freezing process. These include-

1. Slow Freezing

This is a much more traditional method of freezing embryos, sperms, and eggs. Here the sample is first placed in various sealed tubes and after that, the temperature is lowered down in order to reduce any possibilities of damage. The only demerit it has that it is a very time-consuming process and you would require very high expensive equipment.

2. Vitrification

The shortcomings of the previous method gave rise to this new technique of freezing. This is the process that is predominantly used in almost all major fertility clinics. This a very fast process where the doctor freezes the cryoprotected sample at a rapid pace so that the water molecule does not have enough time to form ice crystals thus ultimately increases the quality and rate of survival by the specimen.

After any of the freezing process, the doctor quickly stores the sample in liquid nitrogen. The impact of these processes can be seen that the patient treated with frozen samples leads to the chances of a healthy baby more.
